If someone has a gambling addiction he should self-exclude at casinos in order to avoid temptation, right?

Wrong!

Self-exclusion not only doesn't help a player it can wind up costing him a lot of money. Take a look at this report on Gambling Grumbles to learn why nobody should self-exclude.

There is controversy over the usefulness of self-exclusion programmes as part of gambling addiction treatment. Self-exclusion is an attempt to help people stop playing games of chance only helps those who are willing to play in controlled environment. Individuals should decide whether they ought to self-exclude themselves or seek assistance in relation to their gambling problem on a case by case basis, bearing in mind individual circumstances, requirements, and accessibility of the resources. Those facing gambling problems should think about what would be the best method of recovery.

I respectfully disagree. Self-exclusion can be a crucial step for those struggling with gambling addiction. While it's not a one-size-fits-all solution, it provides a vital barrier and support. The report mentioned might have specific cases, but for many, self-exclusion remains a valuable tool to regain control and seek help for their addiction.
