My wife has been on my case lately about how much time I spend online playing Poker. She even “casually” threw out the word addiction. This really got my going because I enjoy online Poker so much, but I am very aware and cautious about how I play.

I always stick to my set budget that I put aside every month for my hobby. Not even once have I gone beyond this, although some months I don’t spend it all. Also, I don’t put off other things in life in order to play Poker online, in other words I don’t try to pattern my life to fit my online Poker schedule.

I guess the bottom line is that my wife wants more face time with me. I can deal with that, it’s fair enough. But it really ticked me off that she would even suggest I’m addicted. I’m a really balanced person, and I don’t appreciate the insinuation.

Brain, from what you say you don't have the characteristics of an addict.
Many addicts do rationalise their gambling and are in constant denial. It takes someone who cares to help them.

Thanks Genie. Since this topic came up I have actually been doing a lot of research on the subject. I am more convinced than ever that I do not have a problem. Read here.

I do realize though (like most men) I can sometimes leave my lady feeling ignored. By making a conscious effort to be a bit more attentive, I have squashed all this addiction nonsense.

Just an idea from a woman (ME) who’s husband also plays 'Poker & Bingo'.

The deal is: He gives me (Me time) then he can play his 'Poker or Bingo'. (Hee Hee).
I would suggest giving her flowers, hugs or chocolates etc. & nice and sweetly let her know you are going to play poker.

That way you have fulfilled your duty (Ha Ha). You never know she might even serve you with a nice tray of drinks & food while you're playing!

I think that this problem is much more serious when a man start spending more time with poker than with his family. More serious steps should be taken - otherwise it'll lead to we all know what. (((((((
