Hey Mark, From the dead ones, Stu Ungar, with no doubt. His skills were out of this world and seriously no one couldn't beat him at a game of skill like Gin Rummy (which is another one of my favourite games) ! From the ones which are still alive and kicking, I always liked very much Gus(tav) Hansen. He was (and still is) a backgammon top player (I also love backgammon and am a very competitive player too) who switched to poker (just like Stu Ungar from gin rummy switched to poker). He still earns a lot of money (€, millions !) from private backgammon games in Monaco is rumored, and now is one of the best Omaha (pot-limit, that's on the verge of becoming more popular than NLHE) poker player in the world. And oh, by the way, do you know that Gus can easily kick your ass at tennis too ? He is a multiple youth tennis champ as well ! So many skills in one person, you just can't let it go unnoticed ! I like Daniel Negreanu best I would have to say. He is a great poker player and an all-around good guy. He is known for his philanthropy and many people that amass a lot of money are not so giving and caring. Hey, mine is Daniel Negreanu. He has won six World Series of Poker bracelets and two World Poker Tour. He is a superb player!
