BitStarz - "In the name of the father?"

by Steve Russo
April 2020

In short, Bitstarz is refusing to pay 80-year-old Poul M of Denmark the $4300 he won because one of its managers, Olle, is certain that it is really Poul's son, Michael, who is asking for the withdrawal.

Olle first came to this conclusion when he wanted to phone Poul as part of the verification process. Poul wrote back telling Olle that he does not speak English very well and suggested that Olle speak with Michael -- and gave him Michael's telephone number. Olle told Poul that they could have the conversation in Danish. Poul agreed to this and gave Olle his own telephone number.

That, however, was not enough. Olle said that Poul's IP had been used before, when Michael opened his BitStarz account. Olle also noticed that Poul sent his last email from Michael's email addy -- the one that Michael had used for his BitStarz account. He said that the person writing to him was actually Michael and he was trying to get a second welcome bonus.

Poul has explained that he is not very cyber-knowledgable and that Michael set up his computer for him, several years ago including the email program, which has several different addys in it. Michael no longer lives with him, he said, and closed his own account over a year ago. Personally, I can believe this. I am 6 years younger than Poul and am also not cyber-savvy. People of our generation did not even see their first computers until they were close to retirement age. What school children do today on computers is practically second-nature to them. It is not for us. Like Poul, I have several email addys and have, from time to time, sent out letters using the wrong one.

We feel that BitStarz should call Poul and try to verify his account information and his identity -- using a Danish speaker, which Olle said they have.

BitStarz did not reply to our email, which automatically earns it the Skull & Crossbones icon on top of this report. In all honesty, however, I might be prejudiced against it for another reason. There is a different report about a previous complaint about BitStarz. In it, we told the player that his behavior when speaking with the casino was unacceptable. Guess what? Rude wording of emails from casinos is just as wrong as it is from players.

Besides addressing Poul as "Dude" in one of the letters, Olle told Poul, "I'm too old for BS like this." That is far from professional correspondence and it reflects very badly not only on Olle but on BitStarz as a whole.

BitStarz is licensed in Curacao.
