Intertops Casino: "A happy coronavirus story!"

Rosa B of Peru was very frustrated when she wrote to us.

She had won $37,700 at Intertops Casino in April, provided the casino with the necessary KYC documents, and made a $2,500 withdrawal which was paid. However, after that the casino required that she send it a copy of her passport. She said she does not have a passport and cannot receive one because the government office which provides them is on lockdown as part of the Peruvian coronavirus response. She was then told that her account was locked because of not sending the passport and that the remainder of her money has been confiscated.

This does not sound like the Intertops Casino that we know, which has always been very cooperative with us. When we wrote to it about Rosa's problem, we received a very quick reply:

"Thank you very much for bringing this to my attention.

"I let the casino double-check with our risk team and I´m happy to confirm, the player was credited back her winnings and she is able to start requesting payouts.

"Please feel free to forward the good news to the player and let me know if you need anything else."

It is not very unusual for a casino to request a lot of identification, including a copy of a passport, for an amount that big. If these were normal times we would have advised Rosa to get the passport and to send it in. It is understandable that a lower-level casino employee would not feel comfortable ignoring the rule. Normal times, however, have gone out the window with the corona pandemic and Intertops' higher level people obviously realized it once the situation was brought to their attention.

We could only wish that every problem caused by the coronavirus had such a happy ending.
