Brick wall I am quite upset about the new card laws affecting the casinos in the U.S. I went to my local Safeway to purchase a visa gift card (as I ALWAYS have done), and was surprised to find that I could not make a deposit. I got in touch with online support at RTG, Rival, and Vegas tech. Vegas tech informed me that the gift card that I have been using for 5 years no longer supported gambling, RTG and Rival said that I had to go through a third party such as click to pay, ewallet, etc. I tried!!!Not talking I was told by their support team that they could not help me because the card was not an international card. I went back to Safeway and read the packaging of the card. On the front, it said that "it is accepted by major companies all over the world, including those on the net" Liar Shame on you Any feedback out there? I am really upset about this!

I know what you mean -- but we can't blame the casinos. These laws were passed by Congress. Personally, I believe that the only reason was to keep us from playing on line so we would go to land casinos and the government would collect taxes. If we win, it collects the taxes from us. If we lose, it gets them from the casino.

I suppose a Gift Card that facilitates online gambling could be construed as a financial instrument in terms of UIEGA (the sinister US law to curtail online gambling by otherwise law abiding citizens).

Delta is correct. Congress is interfering with individual rights by creating victimless crimes and turning us into criminals. Even for something as trivial as a Gift Card.

I am in total agreement Genie and Delta!!! It is an infraction upon our rights! The gift card was suppose to keep us safe from the identity theft problem, and it worked very well. I don't think that the visa, mastercard or amex companies should have any right as to tell us how and when to spend our money once we recieved the card!d'oh! Speak to the hand It's our money. It's like an employer saying, "well here is your paycheck, but you can't buy toothpaste because we don't use it here!"

Actually, Phantom, Visa and Mastercard should indeed have the right to dictate their terms of business.

What is totally unacceptable is that the bureaurats issue laws that force Visa and Mastercard to adopt immoral behaviour and carry out politicians' oppressive policies.

I agree about the card companies dictating their business. I don't understand how on a gift card though Graeme. Do you see my point?

I can certainly identify ther! Being Canadian, we have more holdbacks in place yet andare being more and more restricted.
Whether it is a money grab or politics, it is all VERY frustrating up here!! Remember the days of paypal deposits.......

With time more and more restrictions occur. I think, that it's all about the money. They are trying to make more money thus making our choices narrower and bringing our money to the exact point where they want us to bring our bucks.... ((((((((( free market they say.....
